Nubra has the best climate in Ladakh. The climate here is milder than in the Indus valley because it is less elevated. It is a more densely populated area with trees and fertile fields where you find plenty of apples and apricots. To go to the Valley of Flowers (Nubra means green) you have to cross the Khardung-La 5.600 m (18.372 ft.), the highest drivable road in the world. It takes about three hours to cover the 39 km from Leh to the top. The view over the Zanskar Mountains is fantastic. Imagine you are nearly at the same altitude as the Mount Everest base camp. The view all the way down is amazing too. Four hours and 56 km from the pass and you reach the Nubra Valley.
